NGO launches programme to tap talents of under-privileged children

Accra, Aug. 3, GNA - A six-week programme to tap talents of less privileged children in film making is underway in Accra. A United Kingdom based Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Akosia Summer Project for Street Children, is taking children from Street Academy in Ghana through the programme. As part of the programme, a delegation from the UK-based NGO and the inmates of the Academy toured the Centre for National Culture in Accra.

Mr George Oppong, Director of the Arts Centre, expressed appreciation that talents of the under-privileged children were being tapped for film making.

He pointed out that film making was an important aspect of culture preservation in addition to educating, entertaining and informing people on emerging issues. "Film making constitutes one of the important pillars of development as it would showcase the rich cultural values of countries, 93Mr Oppong added.

Ataa Lartey, Director of Street Academy, said he was happy that the NGO had selected the academy for the third time. He pointed out that the children would be educated on how to write good plays and ensure quality sound during film making. 3 Aug. 11
