As part of its commitment to improving education in deprived communities, "As I Grow Organization" (AIG), a non-governmental organization (NGO), has successfully distributed brand new school bags, exercise books, pens, pencils, and other essential learning materials to selected basic schools in the Okere District and Akuapem North Municipality under their project, "Let's tour the deprived communities 2026."

The beneficiary schools included Abenta Methodist Primary School, Otareso MA Basic School, Aboabo MA Basic School (in the Akuapem North Municipality), as well as Akyeremanteng DA Basic School and Kyekeku DA Basic School in the Okere District.

The initiative forms part of the organization’s broader mission to promote quality education, enhance academic performance, and create a more conducive learning environment for children in rural and underserved communities. It also aims to help curb absenteeism, which is often linked to the lack of basic educational materials.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, the Chief Executive Officer of As I Grow Organization, Debrah Bekoe Isaac, emphasized the importance of supporting education in deprived areas.

He noted that many schools in these communities continue to face serious challenges, including inadequate teaching staff, poor school infrastructure, lack of textbooks and writing materials, insufficient accommodation for teachers, and poor road networks that hinder teacher mobility.

Debrah Bekoe Isaac called on governmental agencies, corporate institutions, and well-meaning individuals to support efforts aimed at improving conditions in such schools. According to him, education remains a key driver of development, and investing in children today is critical to building a better future.

He further reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting the less privileged, stating that As I Grow NGO will continue to do its best to bring relief and opportunities to vulnerable communities across Ghana and West Africa.

The CEO also expressed profound gratitude to Madam Rose-Marie Celestine in the United States of America for her generous donation, which made the distribution possible.

He observed that teachers in deprived communities often spend their own money during free periods to travel to other schools to help address the shortage of teachers, despite those schools not being their officially assigned institutions.

He described the situation as worrying and appealed to the authorities to urgently address the teacher-pupil deficit to ensure that pupils receive adequate preparation throughout their educational journey.

As I Grow Organization (AIG) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to rural community development, youth development, women empowerment, health and sanitation, child education, and the fight against teenage pregnancy. The organization continues to champion initiatives that improve the quality of life for people in deprived communities.

Through such interventions, As I Grow NGO is making meaningful strides toward promoting education, reducing poverty, and empowering the next generation of leaders in Ghana and beyond.
