Mankessim (C/R), Sept. 11, GNA - Freedom Forum, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), which seeks to bridge the information gap between policy formulators and implementers, has been inaugurated at Mankessim in the Central Region.
Mr. Victor Damptey, Executive Director said the organisation has come "to fill the information gap between policy makers and the implementers."
He said inadequate information flow in the country had given rise to rumour mongering among the people and blamed a section of the media of joining the rumour-mongering pattern, a situation that poses a threat to the country's fragile democracy.
"Ghanaians cannot exercise their rights and responsibilities effectively because of the lack of free flow of information and workers cannot enjoy benefits they are entitled to because they have not been informed on how to access them," he pointed out.
Mr. Damptey said regular forums would be organised at work places and markets to educate the people on their rights, privileges and appealed to donor agencies and philanthropists to help the organisation with computers for storing information.
Mr. Frederick Reynolds, a Mankessim based contractor and Director of the organisation said some health issues especially sanitation would also be tackled.
Cooked food vendors who sell at unhygienic places would be educated on the health hazards that they expose their clients to.
