NGOs donate to the Oncology Department of KATH on World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day is an international day marked on February, 4 every year to raise awareness on cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.

The day which was set aside by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) is to increase awareness and education on cancer with the slogan "We can,I can".

This year’s World Cancer Day event was held in Kumasi and two non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Zurak Cancer Foundation (ZCF) and Institute of Research and Community Planning Ghana (IRCP_GH), partnered to donate some items to the pediatric Oncology Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The ZCF team was led by Mr. Mohammed Abubakar Sadik, who is the Deputy Ashanti Regional Director for ZCK and the IRCP_GH team was led by Mr. Farhan Safyan, the Executive Director of the IRCP_GH organization.

The two teams together donated items consisting of cartons of milk, kalyppo drinks, bottled voltic mineral water,boxes of biscuits, washing powder and packs of toilet rolls.

The members of the two organizations interacted with the patients and their care-takers and shared some words of motivation and encouragement.

The staff, as well as the patients in the unit, were appreciative of the donation as it was apparent by the smiles on their faces.
