The Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Dacosta Aboagye, has warned that the proposed Mahama Care Foundation would collapse the National Insurance Scheme if implemented.

According to Dr. Aboagye, the Mahama Care initiative would serve as a parallel fund for the National Insurance, posing a huge danger to the existing scheme.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has been running advertisements on major media outlets promising to set up a fund to support renal patients.

However, Dr. Aboagye believes this decision is misguided, as Ghana already has a functional insurance scheme capable of funding the policy.

In an interview with OTEC News Reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, Dr. Aboagye emphasised that channelling the policy through the National Insurance Authority would be more effective.

He cautioned Ghanaians against falling for promises that may seem appealing on paper but lack practicality.

Dr. Aboagye highlighted that the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has proposed a more pragmatic plan to support renal patients, which is both practical and sustainable.

He urged the public to support the NPP in the 2024 polls.
