The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has said it is putting together a crack team to begin processes to prosecute persons found to have been involved in various acts of corruption and misappropriation of funds.

Some officials of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) have been under investigation by the internal audit division for various acts of corruption.

According to the CEO of the scheme, Dr. Samuel Annor, the move forms part of the stringent measures the scheme is adopting to re-structure on four pillars, including fully implementing electronic claims management to improve efficiency and reduce fraud.

He said: “We are putting up this crack team and we’ll give it a name, for now, I don’t know but now we are putting the four directorates that deals with these internal police force and prosecutions also with external support from the doctors, nurses, pharmacists to also join the team to be able to go out there and find out exactly what is going on.

“So we are going to put a crack team together and that team will also be trained properly by the Attorney General and the BNI and the CID for them to know exactly what to look for when they go out there, so all these things will be unfolding before the end of year.”
