Mampong (Ash), July 02, GNA - The Sekyere West District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) has reimbursed the Mampong District Hospital with 298,466 Ghana Cedis. This amount is the part-payment of a debt the scheme owes the hospital, spanning from November 2008 to July 2009. Dr. Emmanuel Ahiable, Medical Superintendent of he Hospital disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Asante-Mampong on Wednesday.

He said the payment has enabled the Hospital to settle some of its financial commitments with suppliers and is now embarking on major renovation works to ensure quality health care delivery. "Since 1982, the hospital has not seen any major renovations and this has affected healthcare delivery", he stated. He noted that bed-bugs have infested most of the beds in the wards, while part of the roofing leaks badly and the floor completely worn out. Dr. Ahiable noted that part of the amount would also be used to renovate the Obstetrics and Gynaecologists bungalow which he said is in a deplorable state.

He, however, noted that the hospital enjoys uninterrupted water and electricity supply with the help of a state of the art generator. The Medical Superintendent called on the residents of Mampong community and its catchment areas to assist the administration to uplift the image of the hospital by adopting some of the wards and providing them with bed sheets, bedside lockers and other useful facilities to ensure quality health care.

He also appealed to the government and other stakeholders to provide them with more logistics and also help rehabilitate the road leading to the hospital, which he said is in a very bad state, thereby impeding vehicular movement when emergency cases are being conveyed to the hospital.
