Assin Nsuaem, (C/R) Nov. 3, GNA - Mr. Derrick Owusu-Ambrose, a Pharmacist and a member of the newly created Assin South District Assembly, has asked Ghanaians to embrace the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), since it was being subsidised by the Government to ensure easy access to quality health care.

Mr. Owusu Ambrose, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Assin Nsuaem, the District Capital, was reacting to an announcement by Mr. Kwabena Karikari-Apau, the District Chief Executive for Assin North, that only 30 million cedis has so far been collected in the two Assin districts for the commencement of the Scheme. Mr. Karikari-Apau made this known during a meeting of the District Assembly to elect its first presiding member.

Mr. Owusu Ambrose said the NHIS was the only means people from the deprived communities in the District could access quality health care by paying an annual premium of 72,000 cedis. He appealed to the chiefs and religious leaders to educate the people to embrace the Scheme.
