The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Dr. William Ahadzie is daring management members of the NIA who are questioning his competence and blaming him for what they say are the poor state of affairs at the authority to substantiate their allegations against him.
In a letter to register their displeasure at the situation, the management members accused Dr Ahadzie of flouting procedural and contractual arrangements, alleging that procurement processes at the NIA do not seem to be in conformity with government guidelines.
However, Dr Ahadzie who described the allegations as a bigger part of an agenda challenged his accusers to back their allegations or forever hold their peace.
“I asked them to substantiate all the allegations. I am waiting on them to cite a specific example; I am still waiting for their response,” he dared.
He was speaking on the Big Bite show on Xfm 95.1, a privately owned commercial radio station in Accra.
Citing an instance, Dr Ahadzie said the people who signed the letter are part of a committee that management set up to make proposals about security for the authority pending a security policy from the governing board. He says the members have failed to submit their report and wondered why they will turn round to say that the security system is not functional.
“…the members of this committee have not submitted the security report so it is quite interesting for them to come round and say that the security is not functional as clearly they have the responsibility to provide the security report which has not been done yet,” he added.
He chided his accusers for not using the right channel to address their problems other than the media, adding that their allegations should be discarded with all contempt.
“It is strange to other members of management that this group has come up with this, when everybody has an opportunity to raise issues at management meetings. I think this is cowardice; it is malicious, and must be condemned in the strongest language possible…It is a very cheap approach adopted; we have a forum for discussing management issues, you do not take advantage of the forum and then you go back to leak things to the press. I think it is an attempt to damage the image of the authority and this has implications,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Ahadzie says the National Identification Authority would soon launch a distribution of the identification cards, hopefully, next week as all preparatory works have been done.
