Nkwatia Presbyterian Senior High School (NKWASCO) has won this year’s Eastern Regional Senior High Schools Constitution Quiz Competition, organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), at Koforidua.
Five schools representing five zones: St Martin’s Senior High School (SMARTS), Akim Swedru Senior High School (AKISSS), Yilo Krobo Senior High School (YIKROSEC) and Begoro Presbyterian Senior High School (BEGORO PRESEC) competed in the finals for two months.

The third position went to SMARTS with 33 points, with AKISSS placing fourth with 30 points and the fifth position going to YIKROSEC with 20 points.
The four rounds quiz was based on Ghana’s history, the Constitution of Ghana, current affairs and other areas.
Each of the competing schools was represented by three students.
NKWASCO took away a 26 inch flat screen television set, T’ shirts, a wrapped gift, four of the pocket-size of Ghana’s constitution and a certificate.
The second prize winners got T’ Shirts, wrapped gifts, one pocket size of Ghana’s Constitution and a certificate.
The third also received T’ Shirts, a parcel, one pocket size of Ghana’s constitution and a certificate.
The fourth and fifth schools were given T’ Shirts, a parcel, one pocket size of Ghana’s constitution and a certificate.
Addressing the students, Mr Eric Bortey, a retired Regional Director of NCCE, and the initiator of the competition, advised the contestants and students not to concentrate on the prizes but to take the knowledge aspect seriously and let it be part of them.
He said this initiative was to empower the youth to be patriotic and responsible, and advised them to their text books with other important educational materials of benefits and value.
He urged the youth not to be individualistic, but adopt the communal nature that has existed with Ghanaians and avoid worshiping money.
Mr Alex Sackey, Regional Director of NCCE, said such competitions would help the youth to understand the constitution of the country and cherish and uphold it.
