Accra, April 22, GNA - The National Labour Commission (NLC) on Friday ordered striking health workers across the country to call off their strike action and return to work immediately.
A statement issued and signed by Mr J A Aryitey, Chairperson of the Commission said the strike action was embarked upon after the ruling of the Commission's Compulsory Arbitration Panel on a new salary structure for health workers.
The statement said the Commission wished to draw the attention of the striking workers to the fact that they were in contravention of section 163(4) of the Labour Act which stated: "In a compulsory arbitration, the decision of the majority of the arbitrators shall constitute the award and shall be binding on all the parties".
It said it was the Commission's expectation that once the workers returned to work, the employers would immediately start working together with them to expedite the mapping exercise to pave the way for the full implementation of the ruling.
