…Over Appointment of New D-G For GBC

The National Media Commission (NMC), chaired by New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) apologist, Kabral Blay Amihere is embarking on a sinister agenda that would deny Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), a level headed Director-General (D-G).

The NMC after conducting interview on three candidates to fill the vacant D-G post at the state broadcaster is maneuvering to get its preferred candidate to become the D-G instead of the person who topped the interview. Three persons, Major (Rtd) Albert Don-Chebe, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare and Mr. Kofi Asuman were interviewed for the position.

The panel members who conducted the interview were; Mr. Amiher;, Mr. Akoto Ampa;, Professor Audrey Gadzekpo; Mr. Elvis Aryeh; Mr. Amponsah Bosompem, former NPP Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru; and Mrs. Janet Fofie of the Public Service Commission.

In fact, after the interview, when the panel met to finalize its report, some of the members claimed that they had conducted due diligence on the candidate who topped the interview.

Shockingly, those members claimed that they found out that the candidate is not jovial and that he is too strict.

It has emerged, however, that the preferred candidate of the clique within the NMC was a school mate of two of the panel members. It has also emerged that that preferred candidate has never held any top management position in his entire working life. Again, per the NMC’s own criterion any person eligible to head any of the four state-owned media should at least have four years ahead of him before the statutory retirement age of 60 years, the preferred candidate does not qualified.

This is because the person they are scheming for is over 57 years and that means he is likely to serve the GBC for little over two years, before retirement. The Informer gathered that another group within the panel that conducted the interview angered by the move also did its own due diligence.

It came out that the person who came first during the interview is hardworking, strict and disciplined as against what the mischievous group said about him. Again, The Informer is reliably informed that three referees of that candidate have all given firm and genuine confirmation about him.

After the move was exposed by some members of the panel, one of the candidates petitioned the Office of the President and the NMC was written to but at the time of filing this report, the NMC had not responded to the letter from the Office of the President. Stay tuned for the unfolding saga.
