NPP Bans Aspirants From Speaking On Radio

Information reaching the Daily Guide newspaper indicates that the Western Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has instructed all aspiring Members of Parliament (MPs) and constituency officers of the party in the region not to comment on any issues relating to the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the party in the region on any radio station.

According to sources, the move is to ensure the integrity and sanctity of the 2012 parliamentary primaries of the party in the region slated for April 30, 2011.

Confirming the assertion in an interview with Daily Guide, Kurentsir Sam, regional secretary of the party, pointed out that no constituency officer or aspiring MP had the mandate to comment on the primaries and that whoever needed any information on the parliamentary primary process would have to contact the regional secretariat.

He also appealed to owners of the various radio stations in the region not to allow their outfits to be used for any sort of campaign by any of campaign by any of the aspirants since the election was an internal one and the Electoral College could easily be identified and located.

In all, about 17 parliamentary aspirants have officially submitted their forms to the Western Regional NPP Secretariat to contest the regional parliamentary primaries in the 22 constituencies in the region. Out of the number, only six are women and nine are incumbent MPs seeking re-election.
