Intolerance of Apostles of press freedom
Reports, though unconfirmed reaching The Al-Hajj indicate that the opposition New Patriotic Party, (NPP) intends to boycott an Accra-based private radio station, Adom Fm in protest to what party insiders say is bias of the station’s morning show host, Adakabre Frimpong Manso.
A party insider, speaking to The Al-Hajj on why the party’s representatives to Adom Fm’s morning show ‘Dwaso Nsem’ did not turn up for the program yesterday, Wednesday, said “we have decided to boycott Adakabre’s morning show because of his bias against the NPP, we cannot let this continue”, he told this paper yesterday.
The source, who wants to remain anonymous, accused the host of ‘Dwaso Nsem’, Adakabre Frimpong Manso of conniving with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to continually work to the disadvantage of the NPP flag bearer, Nana Akufo Addo and the party in general.
According the source, though the NPP admits that media houses are at liberty to decide how their programs are run, the party also, has the prerogative to determine which programs it should participate in.
There was drama earlier on Tuesday at the Adom Fm studios when the National Youth Organizer of the NPP, Abayifa Karbo caused disruptions in the station’s morning show.
It all began when ‘Dwaso Nsem’ host, Adakabre told NPP’s Abayifa Karbo that the station will not be held liable for his unsubstantiated allegation that president Mahama was unable to answer questions on Judgment debt posed by VOA’s Shaka Sali’s in a recent interview.
Infuriated by Adakabre’s comment, Karbo, who is alleged to have led a mob to disrupt a similar show on Asempa FM in the same building as Adom FM few months back, and which led to the dismissal of the host of that program, Nana Kwabena Bobie Ansah; called Adakabre names and accused him of working in the interest of their opponents.
It will be recalled that early this year, the NPP issued a communiqué baring all members of its communication team from attending the ‘Ekosi Sen’ on Asempa Fm, citing bias by the host, Bobbie Ansah.
It is however yet to be seen if the NPP would carry out the threat as the producer of the show, when contacted was unable to confirm or deny the party’s withdrawal from the program. Attempts also at speaking with the party’s communication directorate proved futile as at press time.
