NPP Chairman calls for intra-party reconciliation

The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr Haruna Esseku, has advised members of the party to use the remaining three day of the year to parch up their differences.

This, Mr Esseku said, would enable them to move forward in the new year with a new sense of vision and stronger spirit to tackle issues that would enable them to win the 2004 presidential and parliamentary elections with ease.

Mr Esseku gave the advice at an award/fund raising ceremony organised by leaders of the Effutu constituency branch of the party at Winneba on Saturday at which about twenty old and currently executive officers of the party were honoured.

He urged members, who are in logger-head with others to muster courage to communicate with their colleagues, trash out differences and reconcile before the new year begins.

The national chairman made it clear that, that is the best way they could collectively nurture the party to grow from strength to strength in the years ahead as all patriotic and committed members expect.

He said the success or failure of the party to win the next general elections would be determined by the degree of unity, mutual understanding and co-operation that exist among members of the party.

Mr Esseku, who is the only member of the Danquah/Busia family who had ever won the Effutu/Senya parliamentary seat since independence, commended members of the party in the Effutu constituency and advised them to do away with all issues, which could impede their efforts to win the seat back in the next elections.

Dr. David Kwaku Ghartey Central Regional Chairman of NPP and his secretary, Mr Isaac Essuman shared the same sentiments with the national chairman and hoped that supporters of the party would allowed the spirit of peace, stability and unity permeate in all their endeavours.

Mr Essuman charged members of the party to commence their campaign for the 2004 elections as soon as practicable to win more supporters for the party.

Dr. Oheneba Akwasi Acheampong, a lecturer of the University of Cape Coast and chairman of the Effutu constituency branch of the party assured the national leaders of their determination to win the Effutu seat for the party in the 2004 elections.

The function was attended by Mr Thomas Kufuor, a son of President Kufuor who also added his voice to the call for unity and understanding among members of the party in the various constituencies.
