The just ended delegates and special congress of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cost some 1.5 billion cedis. The General Secretary of the party, Dan Botwe says the amount covered transport expenses for 2000 delegates and 200 observers from all 200 constituencies in the country.
Part of the amount, he said was also used on feeding, accommodation, stationery and other logistics ''which went into organizing a very successful congress''.
He told THE INDEPENDENT that the party appealed to individuals who are sympathetic to the cause of the party who willingly donated various amounts to the Special Delegates Congress.
The General Secretary dismissed suggestion in some quarters that the NPP has a secret account in which monies from sympathizers are paid into. He noted that with the tradition of being a transparent party par excellence, the NPP needs not operate secretly, let alone operate a secret account.
