The Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has appealed to members to forgive one another and allow unity to prevail for the Party to regain power in Election 2016.

According to the Council, the fortunes of the party in the general election would be narrowed if members fail to allow unity a chance.

Madam Ama Busia, the Chairperson of the Council of Elders of the NPP, made the appeal when addressing the 15th extraordinary annual national Delegates Conference of the Party, underway in Sunyani.

It is on the theme: “Arise for Change 2016.”

Madam Busia said as the largest opposition Party, the NPP would be gradually brought to its political grave if the current division and disintegration within it is not resolved.

She therefore appealed to the Party leadership and supporters to demonstrate unity of purpose and assist in finding lasting solutions to the challenges that led to the defeat of the NPP in the 2008 and 2012 general elections.

Mr John Boadu, the Acting General Secretary of the Party, said polling station executives are critical members to be considered and catered for if the NPP would win Election 2016.

He said despite some few misunderstandings within the Party, the fortunes of the NPP is still high.

He said the Party leadership is doing extremely well to position itself to capture political power next year.

Mr Boadu said the Party had conducted a comprehensive analysis on the election 2012, and identified that the incredibility of the voters register led to its defeat and therefore asked supporters to exercise patience as the quest of a new credible register is being pursued.

He stated that the leadership of the Party had taken some giant steps, indicating that very soon it would issue ID cards and work towards effective mobilisation of membership as well ensure robust machinery in mobilisation of the required resources for effective electioneering.

The Acting General Secretary announced that the Party had trained more than 3000 polling station officers on the electoral processes, adding that by the end of January 2016, similar training would be organised for electoral area coordinators.

Mr Boadu also called for unity among especially Party members and supporters of various parliamentary candidates, and fight a common course of regaining power in 2016.
