The Germany Branch of the New Patriotic Party[NPP]has announced that members have by a unanimous decision agreed to adopt the Tolon Constituency in the Northern Region of Ghana during the 2012 general elections. In line with this objective, the Party has a strategy in place to provide funds, material and other logistics support to enable the NPP capture the seat from the NDC.

Announcing this at executive committee in Essen over the weekend, a leading member of the Party Mr Oduro Kwateng explained that the decision was motivated by the desire of the Germany Branch to ensure that the Party is well resourced at all levels so as to make victory possible in 2012.

He pointed out that Tolon in addition to being an Orphan Constituency, which must be supported, NPP lost by a margin of just 450 votes in the last elections; a margin which the NPP can easily bridge with the right candidate and the necessary support.

According to Mr Oduro Kwateng,it is against this background that the Party in Germany has taken a decision to throw it’s weight behind Mr Alhassan Yakubu Tali, National Vice Chairman of the Party , to contest the Tolon Seat in the Primaries.

He disclosed that a campaign team to organise and coordinate programmes up till the Primaries has been set to laise with the local campaign team in Tolon adding that a Team will be sent to Ghana to support and strengthen campaign efforts leading to the Primaries in April this year.

He stressed that the 2012 elections will determine whether Ghana can move forward as a country or remain in the mess that the country finds itself under the Mills-Mahama administration. He cited the recent mass protests across the country as an indictment of the failure and incompetence of the NDC government saying that Ghanaians are looking up to the NPP to provide that needed leadership and change.

Mr Oduro Kwateng emphasized that the NPP can rise to this challenge by selecting the right candidates who have the skills, experience and expertise to fight the elections in 2012; saying that what Ghana needs at this time for its economic development is competent and decisive leadership.

He paid tribute to Mr Alhassan Yakubu Tali for giving up his high paying job as an Investment Banker with one of the leading Investments Banks in world, to serve not just the people of Tolon but Ghana as a whole. He challenged other Ghanaian Professionals in Germany not to shy away from Politics saying ’ your knowledge, skills, expertise and above all, your exposure are what Ghana needs to be able to move forward’.
