A clever scheme to loot a whooping amount of ¢60 trillion of the Ghanaian taxpayers’ money in 2008 in the name of government communication strategy has been unravelled by an audit completed into the finances of the Ministry of Information during the tenure of Hon. Stephen Asamoah- Boateng, former Minister of Information under the Kufuor-led NPP government.

The amount, which was in tranches of ¢15 trillion (GH¢1,500,000), was diverted from various accounts for the purpose of what the NPP government called “Communication Strategy Implementation Programme.”

Documents in the possession of your authoritative, ‘The Catalyst’ reveal gavel by gavel how the various amounts were authorised for release to the Minister of Information and National Orientation at the time. The documents also show details of those who authorised the release of these funds for Hon. Asamoah-Boateng to use on behalf of the Kufuor-led NPP government.

Checks by this paper however show that the “Communication Strategy Implementation Programme” by the NPP was tailored to be an integral part of the NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo 2008 election campaign strategy.

This, according to sources, explains why a monumental amount of ¢60 trillion of the poor taxpayers’ money would be channelled through the Minister of Information at the time for NPP’s propaganda purposes.
