NPP Government's electrification programme has failed - MP

Adeiso(ER), Sept. 9, GNA - Mr Samuel Sallas Mensah, Member of Parliament for Upper East Akim Constituency on Monday said the NPP Government's rural electrification programme had failed and should be voted out of power.

He noted that most communities were provided with electricity poles, but were not enough to extend power to all the households. Mr Mensah made the observation when addressing a rally at Adeiso as part of the 10-day tour by Mr John Dramani Mahama, NDC Running Mate in Election 2008 to the Eastern Region.

He said by 1992, Adeiso and surrounding communities in the constituency were regarded as rural communities of Asamankese but through efforts of the NDC Government, they had been transformed and provided with many social amenities.

Mr Mensah challenged the NPP Government to show social amenities it had provided in the constituency for the past eight years that it had been in power.

He promised the people that when NDC wins Election 2008, the area would be transformed into a district to speed up its development. Mr Mahama assured the people that when the NDC formed the next Government, it would review the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Health Insurance Scheme to make it universal so that people with registration cards could access health care delivery in any part of the country.

He said available statistics indicated that about 80 per cent of the schemes were in distress and attributed it to the high administration cost involved in the management of the schemes. Mr Mahama later introduced Mr Joseph Sam Amakwanor, NDC Parliamentary aspirant for Upper West Akim Constituency in Election 2008.
