The Press Secretary to the President, Mr Kwabena Agyepong, has said that the presidency perceived the Odododiodio by-election on Tuesday, August 30, 2005, as a difficult one before the polls.

In an interview with CITI NEWS, Mr Kwabena Agyepong said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was unable to have the support of their support base, since they failed to turn up for the elections.

He said people were generally not motivated enough to vote on Tuesday.

According to him, most registered voters did not find it necessary to vote because they assumed that the NPP was already in power and a by-election was not necessary.

The President?s PR man said the NPP?s successes at other by-elections, which includes winning of seats that hitherto belonged to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were under different circumstances.

He gave the example of the Bimbila seat where the NDC MP, Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas had resigned his seat to take up the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Executive Secretary position; a position which was facilitated by President Rawlings.

He however said they had accepted the defeat and would work on some of the mistakes the NPP may have committed culminating in the defeat to the NPP in the Odododiodio constituency by-elections.
