NPP Is Shocked Over Mills' Achievements - Ablakwa

The ruling NDC government says the top hierarchy of the opposition NPP is shocked at the enormous achievements chalked in the first two years by the Atta Mills led government.

A deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa told Citi News that the NPP is trying frantic efforts to discredit a book published on the achievements of President Mills. The NDC administration has released a 39 page book entitled Better Ghana Agenda which contains the list of 50 achievements by the NDC government since they took over power in January, 2009.

Among the achievements are increases in capitation grant; distribution of free exercise books; plans to have the one time premium payment under NHIS implemented in 2011; stability of the country’s currency; reduction in inflation among others. The NPP has since condemned the publication of the book cataloging the achievement of the NDC government.

Addressing a Press Conference on Thursday November 9, the General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, said the NDC has been dishonest in publishing the book which has a list of their achievements. He said most of the achievements chronicled in the book were started or left behind by the NPP which the NDC is conveniently taken credit for.

According to Sir John, the NDC’s achievements in the last two years are not worth boasting of adding that the publication of the book is a waste of the tax payer’s money. However, Speaking to Citi News, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the NPP is disappointed that the NDC has achieved in two years what the erstwhile Kufuor government could not achieve in eight years.

He said the publication of the book has put the NPP hierarchy into a state of panic. He added that the NPP should be honest and face the reality. “They are so shocked by the fact that in two years we have achieved what they could not achieve in eight years and that is why they have to embark on this elaborate effort to discredit the book”.

“The NPP should just be honest with the reality that they have just been hit with the truth. They would have wished that we didn’t compile this truth which has been so successful and we are not surprised that it has sent the NPP headquarters into a state of panic”.

Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa dispelled suggestions that the publication is a waste of state resources. He said every government must boast of its achievements and the publication of the book is for Ghanaians to know the hard work of President Mills.
