As the world finds itself in difficult times with the ravages of the coronavirus pandemic on individual and community lives as well as bringing to a standstill vibrant economies like Ghana and several others around the world, the embassy of Ghana in Japan in collaboration with the leadership of the Ghanaian community had an encounter via Zoom and Facebook live on Monday, 4th May, 2020 with Ghanaians living in Japan and friends of Ghana in Japan to rally financial support in the ongoing fight against this menace in Ghana.

The Ambassador, His Excellency Frank Okyere briefed Ghanaians and friends of Ghana about the various initiatives taken by the government in response to the unprecedented challenges this pandemic continues to present. Among some of the initiatives include the establishment of the COVID-19 TRUST FUND which seeks to gather financial resources with the ultimate goal of lessening the burden of this hideous pandemic on Ghanaians.

In the fight against this pandemic and the protection of lives and property of hard-working Ghanaians, the party in Japan cannot sit aloof and watch fellow countrymen and women go through the various coronavirus-induced ordeals and hardships unconcerned.

It is against this background, and in the spirit of proactiveness, that the Embassy of Ghana in Japan has launched a fundraising campaign, in close collaboration with the leadership of the Ghanaian community, to raise funds to lend a hand in the fight against COVID-19.

During the meeting, the Ambassador used the opportunity to outdoor a Japan Post Bank account which has already been circulated to Ghanaians in Japan to solicit funds towards such a worthy cause. His Excellency, Ambassador Okyere was emphatic that accounts will be made available to the COVID-19 TRUST FUND committee for auditing purposes and also to the general public upon request.

He also urged the Ghanaian community in Japan to donate to Japan Post account number 11390-01328641 in the name of the Embassy of Ghana as soon as practically possible. With his keen interest in supporting Ghanaian businessmen in Japan, he urged anyone facing any particular challenge to get in touch with the embassy for the necessary assistance and advice.

And to this goal, a 24-hour hotline (090-9645-7816) has already been dedicated and sent to the community leadership to ensure everyone is catered for.

On this note, the leadership of the NPP-Japan wishes to express its profound gratitude to Ambassador Frank Okyere and the Embassy of Ghana for their dedication to not only Ghanaians in Japan but also to Ghanaians in the motherland.
