NPP Parliamentary candidate for Nadowli donates to fight coronavirus

Mr Elvis Botah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2020 Parliamentary candidate for the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency in the Upper West Region has donated items worth GH?40,000.00 to the District Health Directorate to support the fight against COVID-19.

The items included 250 veronica buckets, 125 gallons of liquid soap, 1000 pieces of 200 millimeters alcohol-based hand sanitizers, one 25 liters gallons each of alcohol-based hand sanitizers and liquid soap.

Speaking during a short presentation ceremony at the Nadoeli-Kaleo District Health Directorate, Mr Botah stressed the need for leaders and individuals with the capacity to contribute towards the fight to halt the spread of the pandemic.

He said the leadership of the NPP at the constituency and regional levels were committed to giving COVID-19 the best fight to complement the efforts of government in reducing the spread of the dangerous disease.

The NPP 2020 Parliamentary Candidate for Nadowli-Kaleo acknowledged that the constituency was a flashpoint judging from the fact that many of the traced contacts of the positive case recorded in the region came from the constituency.

Mr Botah noted that similar donations would be made to Security personnel and chiefs in the constituency to help them also fight the pandemic in their areas.

Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister who joined the parliamentary candidate at Nadowli for the donation disclosed that three samples taken out of the 16 primary contacts of the positive case in the region have tested negative.

Another 24 suspected cases have also proven negative after the test, the Regional Minister added whilst stressing that though not all have been tested, this was still refreshing news to the region particularly the Nadowli-Kaleo District since most of the contacts traced came from the district.

The Regional Minister commended Mr Botah for the donation and urged others to emulate him.

He also commended the Chiefs, religious leaders and the entire people of the region not only for their tremendous cooperation with the President’s directive to put on hold funerals and other social gatherings, but also observing the safety protocols to help curb the spread of the disease.

Dr Bin Salih was also grateful to the people of the region for their very important donations, saying, their various gestures was a demonstration of the spirit of unity, commitment to the development of the region and the welfare of the people.

He lauded efforts by the Nadowli-Kaleo District Health Directorate in the fight against the pandemic and made a personal cash donation of GH?2,000.00 in recognition of the effort and encouraged them to continue to put in their best to contain the spread of the disease.

Madam Pheobe Balagumyentime, the Nadowli-Kaleo District Health Director who received the items, thanked the Parliamentary Candidate for the gesture and said other candidates have also made similar donations to the Directorate, which boosted their effort in the fight against the pandemic.

She said the Directorate together with its stakeholders were holding meetings on how to strengthen public sensitizations, risk communication and the provision of handwashing equipment and sanitizers across all health facilities to help curb the spread of the disease.
