NAPO is the former NPP vice-presidential candidate
Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) vice-presidential candidate Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has praised the peaceful and well-organised atmosphere at his polling station during the party's crucial presidential primaries to select its flagbearer for the 2028 elections.
Speaking to journalists after casting his vote for his preferred candidate among the five contenders, NAPO commended the robust security arrangements in place.
"I would like to commend the police for being there in their numbers and the orderliness they are bringing. Surely, nothing untoward will happen. By two o'clock, we'll come around and see. There'll be orderly counting and declaration of the results,” he said.

Expressing confidence in his choice, NAPO declared, "And may the best person win. I do certainly know that the best person is my candidate."
When asked about the aftermath of the elections, the former Energy Minister called for the party to organise itself and prepare adequately.
"It has become a ritual for the NPP; we love elections more than anything sometimes, but we have to organise," he said.
He then outlined a roadmap of the party’s electoral activities leading up to the 2028 general elections.
“So I'll say that after this, the party will prepare itself for the second round of internal elections. It will continue until we finish all internal elections, have a leadership of our party set, and then confront the government of the day over the governance of the country,” he said.
NAPO made these remarks as the NPP conducts its presidential primary on Saturday, January 31, 2026, to elect its flagbearer for the 2028 elections.
Five stalwarts of the party, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central legislator Kennedy Agyapong, former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, are going head-to-head for the party's flagbearership position.
