Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has advised stalwarts and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against unfair criticism of whoever may be selected as the running mate of the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, stressing that no one is perfect enough to tick all boxes and therefore everyone must be guided in the comments they make about others with respect to the choice of a running mate.

Addressing a press conference in Parliament on the running mate issue, Mr. Afenyo-Markin called for togetherness and unity of purpose as Dr. Bawumia goes through the process to select his running mate for the 2024 General Elections.

He emphasized that Members of Parliament (MPs) ought to be circumspect in their utterances about the persons in the running for the Vice Presidential candidate position of the NPP.

"None of us can tick every box. So let's be careful how we describe each other; how we say things about our colleagues; how we approach things and the language we use. It may not be helpful," he noted.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin's advice appears to be a direct response to the NPP MP for Asante Akim North, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, who had earlier criticized Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), one of the persons being considered as a running mate, as not fit enough for the position.

Several respected political watchers and experts had concluded that NAPO would bring value to the NPP ticket, but Mr. Appiah-Kubi minced no words in insisting that he was unfit to partner Dr. Bawumia into the 2024 General Elections.
