A group calling itself Concerned Supporters of the NPP has held a peaceful demonstration at Akim Oda, demanding the resignation of some Akim Oda constituency party executives who they accused of non-performance. Wearing red bands, the demonstrators accused the party Chairman, Rockson Kwame Ofori; the Secretary, Alhaji Ismaila and the Organiser, Kwakye Obeng of concentrating only on their private businesses to the neglect of party activities.
A spokesman of the demonstrators, Kwabena Bamfo, told the GNA that since they assumed office about five months ago, the executives had not held a meeting to discuss the welfare of the party. "Instead they pre-occupy themselves with scrambling for contracts. Mr Bamfo further alleged that the executives, after winning the contracts, fail to employ any of the members of the party, whose untiring efforts have made the party to be a force to reckon with in the area and rather employ family members and friends.
He appealed to the National Executives to conduct fresh election in the area. When Mr Ofori was contacted, he denied the allegations and said as a constituency Chairman, he does not convene meetings at the local level. "I attend local meetings only on invitations," he added.
He also denied that the executives were being awarded contracts from the Assembly and urged the aggrieved parties to pass any grievances they might have through the proper channel.
