Tamale, Nov. 23, GNA - Mr. Mustapha Abdul Hamid, National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday, said the current political atmosphere in the country needed a youth with ideas to occupy the post of General Secretary to lead the party to victory in 2008.

He said no party was going to win the Presidential election easily since the eight-year mandate of President Kufuor would end, adding that, it was important to ensure that a young person "who could run faster" had the post to galvanise support for the party to retain power. Launching his campaign in Tamale on Wednesday for the post, he claimed that the only way for the NPP to win the elections was for the party to choose a youthful person as its General Secretary to lead it to a resounding victory.

He pointed out that he was the Youth leader when the party won the 2004 elections and would do better to win the "crucial" 2008 elections if he was given the mandate as the General Secretary and appealed to NPP members to vote wisely for those who could lead the party to victory and not people who would want their positions as a "Means of employment". Mr. Faisal Gbangili, Deputy Northern Regional Secretary of the NPP, indicated that the 2008 elections was going to be a test for the party and the leading minority NDC since the NPP would be ending its four-year mandate just as the NDC in 2000.

He advised the party members to scrutinise people before voting them into power to lead them to ensure victory for the NPP.
