NPP Youth Wing against intended sale of GCB

Koforidua, Aug. 15, GNA - The Eastern Regional Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has kicked against the intended sale of the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) by Government.

The group reminded Ghanaians that when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government wanted to sell GCB because it was performing poorly and making huge losses, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) then in opposition, spoke against the move, describing the NPP as insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians.

Addressing a press conference in Koforidua on Monday, Mr Frank Annor=96Dompreh, Regional Youth Organizer of the NPP, accused the Government of having an ulterior motive for the intended sale of the state bank.

He asked: 93What has changed suddenly that the NDC Government led by Professor Mills wants to sell GCB at the time the bank is making a lot of profit?"

Mr Annor-Dompreh said the claim by management of GCB that the bank was making losses was not true considering the balance sheet of the bank over the past years.

He alleged that plans were far advanced for the sale of GCB Training school in Accra and some branches of the GCB including Koforidua, Akosombo and Bolgatanga.

He said: 93We the Eastern Regional Youth Wing of the NPP wish to state that we are strongly against the intended sale of the bank and we are calling on all well-meaning Ghanaians to kick against this diabolic decision by NDC government".

Mr Annor-Dompreh said if the intended sale is carried out, more than 900 workers would be laid-off and this would result in untold hardship on them and their families. 15 Aug. 11
