Convicted Salifu Maase, aka Mugabe, has revealed that there have been attempts by some unnamed activists of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to kill him through poisoning.

Managing Editor of the New Punch newspaper Baby Ansaba made the revelation on Atinka FM’s AM Drive on Friday, 12 August.

“Mugabe told me that there was an attempt to poison him in prison. I just kept it to myself. It was corroborated by Gregory Afoko,” brother of suspended chairman of the NPP, Paul Afoko. Gregory is standing trial for the murder of the NPP’s Upper East regional Chairman.

The journalist, though, failed to give details of the revelation by the jailed presenter.

Mugabe and two others: Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn are each serving a four-month jail term at the Nsawam Prisons for contempt of the Supreme Court.

Mr. Gunn and Mr. Nelson were hauled before the apex court after threatening to kill justices of the bench. They issued the threat on a political talk show called Pampaso hosted by Mugabe on Accra-based Montie FM.

Sympathisers and friends of the three convicts have petitioned the president to invoke his prerogative of mercy mandate to grant them pardon.
