Dr. Ezekiel Agyekum-Obeng, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team, says the ruling party is "mentally distressed".
According to Dr. Agyekum-Obeng, recent occurrences in the NPP, notably the untimely deaths of Ken City Media's Wofa Kwabena Kwakye and Hon John Kumah, former NPP MP for Ejisu, have positioned the party in a way that its members will need mental health attention.
He spoke on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show in relation to the presidential convoy's fatal accident on the Accra-Kumasi highway.
The convoy collided with a KIA Rhino truck at Bunso-Akyem Asafo stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway, claiming the life of a driver with others seriously injured.
The President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo wasn't involved in the accident as he travelled in a military aircraft to Accra while returning after a series of events in Kumasi.
The President and a host of NPP members and dignitaries attended the funeral of the Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah over the weekend.
Dr. Agyekum-Obeng called for psychotherapy to be given to the accident victims and the entire party.
"As a party, mentally, we are distressed. If you look at these key personalities and coming from our brother, the late John Kumah's funeral to meet another accident, as a party, we are in somehow difficult times", he said.
