The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that members serving on Constituency Elections Committees (CECs) will not be allowed to contest in the party’s upcoming constituency executive elections.

The directive forms part of guidelines issued by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, aimed at ensuring transparency, fairness, and credibility in the electoral process.

According to the guidelines, any member of a Constituency Elections Committee who wishes to contest for a position must first resign from the committee and be replaced by a nominee of the constituency executive committee.

“A member of the Constituency Elections Committee shall not be eligible to contest in the constituency elections,” the statement stressed.

The party also outlined eligibility requirements for aspiring constituency executives.

Prospective candidates must be registered members of the NPP in the constituency where they seek office, be in good standing with the party, have fully paid their dues, and have actively participated in party activities for at least two years.

In addition, candidates vying for the positions of Constituency Secretary, Research Officer, and Electoral Affairs Officer must possess a minimum of a diploma qualification.

The NPP noted that party members whose names do not appear in the polling station register may still qualify to contest if they can prove they have been members in good standing for at least two years.

To address disputes arising from the electoral process, the party has constituted Constituency Appeals Committees comprising representatives of the National Steering Committee, Regional Steering Committee, and the Legal Directorate.

The committees are expected to determine petitions within 48 hours of receipt. Aggrieved petitioners may further appeal to the Regional Steering Committee and subsequently to the National Steering Committee, whose decision will be final.

The party also announced nomination fees for various positions. Aspirants seeking the position of Constituency Chairman will pay GH¢1,500 for nomination forms, while First and Second Vice-Chairperson aspirants will pay GH¢1,000.

The statement added that the Electoral Commission of Ghana will supervise the elections in accordance with the Political Parties Act, 2000 (Act 574), while at least one-third of delegates must be present to constitute a quorum.
