Governance Expert Dr. Ransford Gyampo, wants the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to immediately take steps to resolve its impasse with Accra based Neat and Okay FM, saying their boycott of the radio stations would not be beneficial to their course.

Gyampo who lectures at the University of Ghana (UG) believes that it was suicidal for the elephant family to take such a strong stance against the radio stations given the wide listenership and the language the two use to communicate with their public.

“Given the high illiteracy rate among the people and the fact that Akan seems to be a very popular language among Ghanaians, it would be politically unwise and quite suicidal to boycott these radio stations for whatever reason because most Ghanaians speak and understand Akan to various degrees”.

“So, it is important for the party to rethink how it can petition the top echelons of the radio stations instead of doing what they are doing”, he noted in an interview on TV3, Monday.

He said the action of the NPP, if not withdrawn will create a perception that there is some level of intolerance in the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition.

“So I think it is politically suicidal for the NPP seeking to annex power to pursue such a combative option. The party, I must say, cannot have all media houses to it side but it must not also do anything to break its relationship with those that are not on its side but can effectively help it to communicate its policies to the citizenry”.
