Accra, Jan 22, GNA - Sheikh I. C. Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister, has launched the campaign of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2004 general elections in the region.

Addressing a get-together for MPs, constituency executives and party sympathisers in Accra, he urged them not to rest on their oars but to strive to ensure resounding victory.

Professor Mike Ocquaye, Ghana's High Commissioner to India, said the Government would take delivery of 300 Tata buses and 1,000 tractors from the Indian Association of Industries by the end of March this year. He said the agreement was reached during the visit by President J. A. Kufuor to India last year, saying, more Indian investors have shown interest in various sectors of the economy.

Prof Ocquaye said the benefits of the visit included the agreement by the Indian government to provide the Kofi Annan Peace Centre with modern Information Technology equipment estimated at 100 million dollars free of charge.

The High Commissioner pointed out that with prudent management of the economy and effective practice of democracy, Ghana had almost reached the HIPC decision point, which made the Japanese government to reverse its stand not to support any nation that took on the initiative by granting the country 82 million Dollars grant.

Western nations are also building confidence in our management of the state, he said, adding that, "come year 2004 election and all would observe that Ghana is on sound footing on the path to economic recovery".

Nii Adjiri Blankson, a leading member of the NPP, expressed concern about friction between MPs and constituency executives especially in Greater Accra and called on the elders of the Party to resolve the problem before "our campaign kick start".

Members of the Party should be tolerant during the electioneering campaign since "politics is not a war but rather a game of persuasion, lobbying and diplomacy" he stated.

Present at the function included Mr Darko Mensah, MP for Okaikoi North, Mr A. T. K. Agban, Danbge West District Chief Executive, Dr Nyarko Tamakloe, a leading member and Mr. Gilbert Quartey, Patron of the Korle Klottey branch of the Party.
