The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Frederick Fredua Anto is peeved with the ‘painful’ defeat of the party in the 2012 general elections.

He alleged that the NPP was cheated by the Electoral Commission (EC), which gave electoral victory to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on a silver platter.

He said the NDC won the presidential election because of the abysmal performance of the EC.

Mr. Anto disclosed this while addressing hundreds of NPP supporters in the Ashanti region when national executives of the NPP, led by party National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey visited Kumasi to thank party faithful for their hard work.

The Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman claimed the NPP was cheated during the 1992, 1996 and 2008 elections by the EC, calling for a stop to the practice.

Mr. Anto commended the NPP leadership, led by the party’s presidential candidate for the 2012 polls, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for their bold decision to contest the results of the 2012 polls in court.

He said the petitioners and their lawyers showed that the elections were fraught with malpractices, irregularities, among others during the election petition hearing over the last eight months.

Despite the fact that the petitioners lost the case in court, Mr. Anto said the performance of the petitioners at the Supreme Court should motivate the millions of NPP supporters to believe in the party.

He urged NPP supporters not to give up since God was on the side of the party.

The NPP gurus, among others, stormed Kumasi to thank their members for their unflinching support for the petitioners during the hearing of the 2012 election petition.

Party bigwigs at the event included Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, NPP’s Vice Presidential Candidate for the 2012 elections, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie and Otiko Afisa Djaba, NPP General Secretary and National Women’s Organizers respectively.
