NPP denies involvement in Otumfuo bribery slur

The New Patriotic Party has denied any involvement in a publication alleging that Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II brokered a bribery deal between President Mahama and two of the nine justices that sat on the election petition case.

The New Free Press newspaper recently published the allegation which sparked a wave of radio discussions that slurred the Asante monarch.

The Manhyia Palace has already denied the allegation and is expected to respond accordingly.

Some accusing fingers have been pointed at the main opposition NPP as being behind the publication but its General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie in an interview with XYZ News said his party has no hand in the publication.

It is not true that the NPP is pushing anything; Otumfuo is an eminent Chief and is well respected internationally and nationally and, therefore, Otumfuo would not stoop so low to get himself in an ugly allegation that involves John Mahama and his team.

“This is not something difficult to come from the NDC…I mean you know them better than I do,” Sir John said.

Meanwhile, the NPP has denied allegations of death threats against one of its regional executives.

The Greater Accra regional spokesperson of the Party, Mike Ampong, is accusing some top leaders of the NPP of plotting to harm him.

He told XYZ News that his recent comments over the raging debate in the party about who leads them to the 2016 elections has attracted enemies for him from the top echelons of the NPP.

But General Secretary of the party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie in an interview with XYZ News said the allegations should not be taken seriously.
