Head of Policy Monitoring and Evaluation at the presidency, Dr. Tony Aidoo says the petitioners challenging last year’s presidential results at the Supreme Court deserve no plaudits for resorting to the legal system rather than the streets to fight their cause.

Main opposition New Patriotic Party’s 2012 Flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is in court together with his running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and party chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey; to overturn the presidential election results.

They say there were numerous irregularities which robbed the NPP of victory.

Stalwarts of the NPP have constantly praised the petitioners for using the court to fight their cause rather than resorting to the streets.

However, Dr. Tony Aidoo told the XYZ Breakfast Show on Thursday that, obeying the law as prescribed by the Constitution is no reason to attract commendation.

“They should not be commended for doing what is right because that’s what you are supposed to do. We are all supposed to obey the law. We are all supposed to commit ourselves to the principles of democracy,” Dr. Aidoo insisted.

According to him, the Party’s decision not to use the streets to fights its case provides no grounds for commendation.
