A founder member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a former Ghanaian Ambassador to Serbia, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has criticized the trooping of court by leadership of the party, stressing it is “affecting the party at the moment”.

He notes that the situation has created a vacuum within the party, which is silently disintegrating it.

The former Ghana Football Association Chairman expressed this observation in an interview with TV3’s Kenneth Osei Ampofo on Thursday at his residence in Accra.

He notes that NPP has enough competent lawyers who can represent the party in court, but “you cannot have the whole leadership of the party in the court”.

“The lawyers should take charge of the case in court. Those who have to be there should be there,” he advised.

Speaking on the two-year suspension slapped on Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe affirmed that it was too harsh.

“I think two years is a strong punishment, particularly when [Dr Wereko-Brobby] came out to apologize to [Dr] Bawumia,” he said.

“But I think this is a decision taken by the party and we have to abide by it,” he added.

He, however, disagreed with Dr Wereko-Brobby on failure of leadership, observing that the party's leadership is competent just that it is yet to notice the general shift within the party.

“The old guard should give way to the new guard and this should be done peacefully,” he said.
