The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketiah says the unfolding events at the Audit Service fuels the suspicion that the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) government has an agenda to remove the current Auditor General, Daniel Domelevo.

He believes the NPP government has an ulterior motive against the Auditor General and may eventually remove him from office just as they did in the case of the former Electoral Commission Chairperson, Charlotte Osei.

Speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Mr Asiedu Nketiah alleged that the government is in concert with the Board Chair to hatch that plan against Domelevo and replace him with someone who can be manipulated.

“There is clear evidence that the Auditor General has no knowledge about the operations of those private audit firms supposedly engaged by the Audit Service to probe former appointees. And these are firms who are in bed with the NPP. We found out that Mr. Domelevo is just being hounded because he’d vowed to resist owning that cooked reports by these audit firms as they’re forcing him to do so. This why the fake News factory has set an agenda to write negative stories about him. You’ll recall quite recently Daily Guide newspaper published some bad stories about the Auditor General leveling some charges against him. The agenda is to push him out, as he’s become a stumbling block for them to perpetrate their bad deeds. And as far as I know, Mr Domelovo is not ready to compromise his honesty and high moral principles, hence the attack on him.” Mr Asiedu Nketiah disclosed.

It would be recalled that there has been some bad blood between the Auditor-General and the Audit Service Board in the past few weeks.

The two sides have been trading allegations and counter-allegations, resulting in both writing separate petitions to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The Auditor-General, Mr Daniel Yaw Domelevo, in a petition dated July 27, 2018, and addressed to the President, indicated among others that the Audit Service Board and its Chairperson, Prof. Edward Dua Agyeman, were interfering in his line of work.

However, a counter-petition dated August 6, 2018, signed by all members of the Audit Service Board and their chairperson and addressed to the President, accused the Auditor-General of disregarding laid down procedures in the discharge of his duties.

But the General Scribe of the NDC is convinced the petitions and counter-petitions seen at the Audit Service is just a smokescreen by the NPP government to chase away Mr. Domelevo from office.
