‘NPP has no serial callers’ -NPP

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, Lord Commey, has denied the existence of “anything like NPP serial callers” as far as the leadership of the party is concerned. He said as much as the NPP appreciates the contributions of individuals during debates and on issues on radio stations, there is no known group as ‘NPP serial callers’ in the party’s structures.

Speaking on Fox FM, a local radio station in Kumasi on Tuesday in reaction to statements attributed to one Appiah Stadium, who styles himself as NPP serial caller in which he accused the government of sponsoring 150 NPP activists to the Germany 2006 World Cup, Lord Commey said: “with the coming into power of the NPP, there has been a wave of freer expression and this has led to the situation where party supporters and members across the political divide have become more vocal.”

He noted that this is good for the sustenance and growth of the nation’s democracy which is still at its revolving stages.

The NPP National Organiser said it would not have been out of place if the NPP as a party could have managed to source some funding somewhere and sent its activists to Germany to witness the World Cup tournament.

He disclosed that he tried, albeit unsuccessfully to sponsor the ten regional organisers of the party to Germany, but the arrangement did not materialize due to travel requirement constraints. “This would have motivated them to put up their best and ensure that the NPP records a resounding victory in 2008,” Lord Commey said.

Asked whether the conduct of Appiah Stadium does not confirm widespread disillusionment with the NPP, the NPP National Organiser said disillusion can be found even in the church, since the church or any other institution, for that matter, cannot solve all the problems of its members at one go. He believed if Appiah Stadium professed to be an NPP member, he would have resorted to the parties’ procedures of addressing grievances instead of going on air and pouring invectives on good party people.

“In any case Nana Akufo Addo, whom Appiah Stadium alleged sponsored him is a high ranking member of the NPP and his gesture could be construed to be a gesture by the party,” Lord Commey intimated.

“That is why he even ought to be grateful to the party instead of denigrating it”.
