The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party of having unofficial means of accessing various information from the Electoral Commission (EC).

This comes after the General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu disclosed on Asempa FM Thursday that the NPP has received the provisional copy of the voters' register, which the main opposition NDC is fighting for the EC to furnish them with.

The Acting Director of Public Affairs at the EC, Sylvia Annor however in an interview with host Kweku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM indicated that no political party has been supplied a copy of the provisional register yet as being claimed by the NPP Scribe.

“As far as I’m concerned no political party has been given a copy of the provisional register. It’s not factual; all those who have applied have not received it. It’s a wrong perception that we’re being selective. We’re working tirelessly to ensure that we work in consonance with what the law says,” Madam Sylvia Annor stated.

But the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia reacting to the matter said, the NPP’s John Boadu’s own confession on Radio gives credence to their contention about the fairness of the EC.

“…If she knew the real facts of the situation she wouldn’t have released that statement. It’s because the so-called channels have failed that is why we’re contending this issue in public. We have already written a letter to them and attached a hard drive for a soft copy of the provisional voters register before the beginning of the exercise. We have made several follow ups but to no avail. The document that would be the basis and a checker for the exhibition exercise was not available to us, how do we make the exercise efficient? So it was improper to even conduct the Exhibition exercise without the provisional register. I sympathize with Sylvia Annor because she’s being pushed to do the dirty job in the public for EC.”

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sued the Electoral Commission (EC) for failing to provide the party with a provisional copy of the voters register to guide it in the ongoing voters register exhibition exercise ending Friday, September 20, 2019.

The party said it decided to take that line of action because the EC had failed after incessant requests from the party to do so.
