NPP inaugurates youth club

Dorimon, (UW/R), March 30, GNA - Alhaji Abubakari Abdul-Rahman, Upper West Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, has urged party supporters to see the crusade to improve the electoral fortunes of the party in the region as a duty for all those, who want to see the party retain power.

He said although the executives would never relent in their zeal to mobilise human and material resources to break NDC's dominance in the region, it was incumbent on supporters to complement that, by becoming campaign managers in their various localities.

The Regional Chairman said this when he inaugurated a zonal branch of the NPP Youth Wing at Dorimon in the Wa West District of the region. Known as the Dorimon Zone NPP Youth Club, it seeks to galvanise the youth in the 35 polling stations, which form the zone, to support the new executives in the region to put the party in good stead for victory in 2008.

Alhaji Abdul-Rahman told the well-attended gathering of party supporters and a number of people, who have defected from the NDC in the area to vote for honesty, credible and development-oriented people during the forthcoming District Assembly Elections.

He called for cooperation between them and their District Chief Executive to enable him have the right morale to offer effective and efficient service to them.

Mr Ibrahim Tamaa, Regional Secretary of the party asked polling station executives to select their secretaries to be trained as polling agents.

It has been noticed that the poor performance of the party in the constituency in recent general elections, were partly due to poor policing of the polls by the party agents, he said. Mr Badia Yussif, secretary of the club, appealed to the party to organise frequent educational programmes for the various youth organisers and secretaries on the policies, programmes and strategies of the party.

Mr Badia said the youth in the area would avail themselves of the government's one trillion cedis youth employment programme through the acquisition of vocational skills.

Mr Daniel Dari, Wa West DCE and his colleague, Mr Mac Adams Banda Wa MCE, who graced the occasion, took turns to explain the merits of the government's programmes such as the capitation grant and the National Health Insurance Scheme to the party supporters.
