NPP is distressed but not broke

The NPP’s finance committee Chairman, Collins Yaw Adu Gyamfi has denied reports that its forthcoming Congress is in jeopardy due to financial distress.

The Mail news paper of today reports the Party is struggling to pull resources together for the next Month’s Congress. Constitutional amendment proposals are expected to be considered at the Congress among other things.

The Mail reports a balance of 1000 Ghana cedis in one of the party’s accounts.

Mr Adu Gyamfi admits the party is distressed but denies being broke.

“We have challenges, challenges in financing activities seminars, paying salaries of permanent workers etc. but I can confidently say we are not broke.”

He expressed his shock at the reports because his party has over five bank accounts thus conclusive evidence of their finances couldn’t be determined by the contents of one account.

Mr Gyamfi denied reports that the NPP would not be facing financial difficulties if they had remained in power.

“They only talk about income and not expenditure” he stated.

He went on to explain that the 250 million received last year from each of the 17 presidential hopefuls did not even cover the cost of their last congress.

He further appealed to members of the party to contribute to and make donations for their forthcoming congress in august.
