Accra, July 19, GNA - Mr Haruna Ameyaw, a leading member of the New Patriotic (NPP) on Sunday advised founding members of the Party not to assume superiority over new members since the NPP was founded on the principle of equality.

Mr Ameyaw said new members of the NPP were entitled to all privileges the Party bestowed on members and asked every member to respect them.

"Anyone who comes to the Party today can contest in any election, so nobody has the right to tell another person that you have just joined the Party."

He gave the advice at the inauguration of the National Women's Wing of the Nasara Club in Accra.

He said the primary objective of all members of the Party was to work together towards its victory in Election 2004, adding that presuming superiority over others could defeat the Party's objective of winning the elections.

Mr Ameyaw professed that there would be defections from other parties to the NPP in the events leading to the elections and appealed to the supporters to wholeheartedly welcome such members.

Mr Bisimi Saib-Atta, National Secretary of the Nasara Club, said the aim of the Women's Wing was not to assume the responsibilities of the NPP's National Women's Wing but to support its effort in mobilising the support of women within the Zongo and other communities.

"The Nasara Women's Wing is not to be seen as a rival of the National Women's Wing of the Party but to complement each other towards the Party's victory in the 2004 elections," he said.

He said the National Nasara Women's Wing would be the focal point under which all other regional wings would be represented to present a common front for women in articulating their views.

Alahji Mohammed Ramadan, Chairman for the occasion, said the inauguration of the Nasara Women's Wing demonstrated the NPP's all-inclusive philosophy initiated by President John Agyekum Kufuor.

He said the diverse roles of women in society go a long way in forming a strong and effective organisation, which could not be ignored.

He, therefore, called on the Party to equip women with the right tools to develop their outstanding potentials to actualise a total Party transformation.

The National Nasara Women's Wing has an eleven-member executive chaired by Hajia Barikisu Bawa.

Hajia Hawa Sadat, National Nasara Women Organiser, told the GNA in an interview that her team would work hard to enable the NPP to gain the support of about 80 per cent of women living within the Zongo Communities. July 19 04
