General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has advised the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie to resign his post, for his failure to deliver victory for the party in the 2012 general elections.

According to Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Mr. Owusu Afriyie, also known as Sir John, failed the party by employing incompetent agents to represent the party at polling stations during the conduct of the 2012 general elections.

The NDC scribe stated on Adom FM’s morning show programme, Dwaso Nsem on Wednesday, that the NPP agents also demonstrated their ineffectiveness by failing to complete complaints form - a key requirement to challenging the electoral process at the polling station.

Sir John had claimed the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, has lost credibility and should resign as a matter of urgency before any meaningful electoral reforms, if any, can be done, ahead of the 2016 elections.

He noted that the EC boss’ credibility had been decimated during the hearing of the Presidential Election Petition and could no longer be considered as a credible person to head this important institution.

Pressure group, the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) is also calling for the head of Dr. Afari-Gyan, as an essential part of the reforms that the EC is calling for.

But Mr. Asiedu Nketia stated that Dr Afari-Gyan should rather be praised for distinguishing himself in pushing the frontiers of Ghana's electoral process to the admiration of the international community.
