The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to improve its communication strategy and embark on a deliberate process of restoring public confidence in preparation for the 2028 general elections.

Speaking in an interview on UTV's "Face to Face" show on July 2, 2025, Boamah stressed that rebuilding public trust would necessitate acknowledging past mistakes made during the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration and demonstrating a genuine commitment to change.

The Akufo-Addo administration faced significant criticism, particularly regarding economic challenges such as high inflation, increasing public debt, and the controversial Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), which led to losses for many bondholders and eroded public trust.

“It is not just about apologising to Ghanaians. We need to undertake an open reconciliation and appeal to Ghanaians to forgive us for the things that went wrong during the Akufo-Addo tenure. We must also tell them we are restructuring the party and reviewing the policies we would implement when we return to power," he noted.

The lawmaker explained that the NPP needs to clearly differentiate its policy direction from that of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), adding that public confidence must be rebuilt over time through sustained community engagement.

“The process to win public confidence is not a one-day event. It should be continuous, especially within the communities. Some people lost their livelihoods because of certain policies introduced by the NPP government. Some of these people and their families are bitter, and we cannot ignore that. A lot of community engagement needs to be done. We must also clearly examine the NDC's policies and compare to our own," he remarked.

Patrick Boamah also emphasised the importance of engaging communication experts and implementing data-driven strategies to strengthen the party's public education efforts.

“We must improve our communication; we need to do more public education and bring on board communication experts who can advise us. We should not wait for an election year to conduct polls. Scientific evidence should guide us in our campaign planning,” he added.
