NPP not important for me to focus on destroying - Ken Kuranchie fires salvo

Kenneth Agyei Kuranchie, a failed New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant, has disclosed reasons for his recent decision to quit the party.

The veteran journalist and lawyer had previously told Accra-based GHOne TV, last week, that the party was flouting its regulations but did not drill into the details.

In another interview on Accra FM (May 13, 2024), he explained how processes leading to the party's parliamentary primaries were in large parts irregular and without recourse to known rules.

"The foundation of Ghana is built on the rule of law, if you are in a group that does not respect the Constitution or flouts its own rules, you can choose to remain in there or quit," he said in Twi.

"Looking at the current situation, I see the party is not a respecter of its own rules and regulations. I don't think I would want to continue to be part of that so I have moved on," he stressed.

Asked whether he felt he had been betrayed by a party he fought hard for to win power in 2016 and 2020, he said he would not harbour any ill-feeling towards the party because it was not worth his time.

"I don't like what has happened. I am not going to go around carrying a baggage on my head and constantly thinking about what I can do against the NPP, they are not important.

"I don't think the party is important enough for me to say from now going forward I will focus all my life trying to bring down the New Patriotic Party," he stressed.

He has, meanwhile, announced plans to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 elections in the Okaikwei North Constituency.
