The 2014 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of Government has been given all sorts of names by members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In Parliament that day, the Minority NPP said the budget is retrogressive and would not tackle everyday challenges of ordinary people. They even occasionally brandished leaflets with various inscriptions to show their disapproval of the policies and programs outlined in the budget.

Some of the inscriptions read; “GYEEDA”, “Woyome”, “SUBAH”, “Isofoton”, “O God, Save Ghana-Proverbs 29:4”, “Boys Abre”, Vikileaks”, among others.

Minutes after the presentation of the budget, Minority leader, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu referred to it as “Uninspiring,” whiles the NPP General Secretary, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie described the 2014 budget as a visionless one.

“We are highly disappointed in the budget that was presented indeed a budget that will lead to nowhere…If you look at the 2013 budget the promises that were made of building schools and roads are the very things that have been repeated in the 2014 budget,” he said.

But a member of National Executive Council of the ruling NDC, Lawyer Owusu Agyemang, considers the assertions by the opposition NPP as “empty noise making”.

Reacting to the negative labeling of the budget by the NPP on Hot Fm, Lawyer Owusu Agyemang averred that the opposition NPP cannot be trusted when vested with power because of their proclivity to loot state lands and properties.

He accused the NPP of not seeing through to the end, a single major project they undertook, during the eight years they presided over the country.

“….NPP could not complete any major policy or project they begun in their 8 years….they could not complete the road construction from Accra to Ofankor; Tetteh Quarshie-Adenta road was not completed in their 8 years. The same applies to George Bush Highway, the Jubilee House and the Bui Dam,” he pontificated.

He continued; “the NPP is full of empty noise, engaging in secondhand clothing politics and politics of rags.”
