NPP pledges decent political campaign in Election 2012

Kumasi, Aug. 11, GNA - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has renewed its pledge to ensure decent and clean political campaign and invited its opponents to do same to help calm tension ahead of next year's general polls. Mr Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, General Secretary, said they were not interested in politics of insults but would concentrate simply and purely o= n issues. This comes amidst growing public outcry against the intolerance and intemperate language by politicians.

The NPP General Secretary, who was interacting with journalists in Kumasi on Thursday, said he was upbeat about the chances of the NPP in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections. He said the party was ready to assume political leadership of the country to end the growing cynicism and restore hope to Ghanaians. Mr Owusu-Afriyie said the party had thoroughly examined its performanc= e in the 2008 elections, corrected identified weaknesses and re-positioned itself to re-capture political power come Election 2012. Mr Owusu-Afriyie, however, acknowledged that they could not do it without 93God's favour." It was for this reason that they had decided to establish Christian an= d Muslim 93prayer cells" in all the party's constituencies and regional offices to pray and seek God's intervention.

He encouraged all members and supporters of the NPP to join the 93pra= yer cells", saying it should not be lost on anyone that 93except the Lord bu= ilds the house, the builder or the labourer, labours but in vain." Asked about when the running mate of the party's presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, would be named, he answered, 93th= at would be in February, next year". He called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure the adoption of biometric system to prevent cheating through multiple voting. Mr Owusu-Afriyie conveyed a goodwill message of the NPP to Muslims, in this holy month of Ramadan.
