Beleaguered main opposition party stalwart, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey, has accused the leadership of his own party, New Patriotic Party, of masterminding media attacks against his personality.
He said the party should be aware that criticisms cannot make him change his mind on his convictions about the party’s petition challenging the 2012 presidential results at the Supreme Court.
The former chief executive of the Volta River Authority and former presidential candidate of now defunct splinter party, United Ghana Movement (UGM), alleged that the people attacking him on the airwaves are sponsored by the executives of the party, noting “they go to the NPP headquarters, and they tell them the line to tow and they give them credit cards to defame me”.
Dr. Wereko-Brobbey is currently on suspension from the NPP for openly criticising the party’s court challenge of the results of the 2012 elections and also for his description of the party’s 2012 Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is the Second Petitioner and Key Witness in the hearing, as a “clueless” and confused person.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Thank God it’s Friday with KSM on June 7, 2013, Dr. Wereko-Brobbey said: “Some other guy wrote some nonsense about me, and they said he is a Lecturer at the University, and he speaks for Nana Addo and I said so what, I can dismiss many of those criticisms because they are coming from people with no substance and no achievement for themselves and the party they claim they want to die for”.
He added that: “The only time you take most of these seriously is when they say you have chopped money, and there is a modicum of truth in it then you start worrying”.
Tarzan, as he is widely known, said though he does not claim to be right at all times, he will not shy away from matters that bother him.
